The Authority for Standards in Social Welfare has set up a swab test and contact tracing centre in 39 homes for the elderly. This is done to minimise the spread of Covid-19 in these care homes.

These homes combined accommodate around 4000 residents.

According to Michael Mizzi, Head of Operations at the Authority over a period of one week around 30% of residents and staff are being tested to ensure that the virus is kept under control. He also added that around 3000 swab tests are distributed every week.

Since June, around 30,000 swab tests have been carried out on the elderly and staff at the care homes.
