A sniffer dog who’s name is Sophie, has exposed a passenger who was carrying over €19,000 undeclared cash.

The Customs Department stated that the man was attempting to travel to Sicily by Catamaran and when they asked him if he had any cash to declare he said no. After a search was conducted on the man, they discovered over €19,000 of undeclared cash.

According to Maltese law, people travelling to and from Malta can carry up to €10,000 cash which has to be declared.

This was the second time that a passenger was caught travelling with an excessive amount of undeclared cash. Customs caught up to almost €48,000 of undeclared cash this month alone. From the beginning of the year, €643,000 of undeclared cash was exposed in a total of 39 cases.
