The famous X-factor judge Simon Cowell broke his back yesterday while testing his new electric bike in his home’s backyard.
“Simon has broken his back and is having surgery this evening,” said the spokesperson for the 60 year old judge.
“He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands,” she added.
Simon has since commented on Twitter, writing: “Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.”
In a sub-tweet on the same tweet he also thanked the nurses and doctors who’ve been helping him on his recovery.
Since being taken to hospital, he has undergone six hours of surgery, and had to have a metal rod put in his back.
Sources close to Simon revealed that his injury could have been far worse and that he is very lucky.
The source told Mirror Online: “He fell flat on his back and the doctors say the impact missed his spinal cord by about a centimetre and it could have been a lot, lot more serious.”
Since he is still recovering, he will have to miss out of the shows he was set to film in the next few weeks. These include ‘America’s Got Talent live show’ as well as ‘Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals ‘
