Facebook is to launch “Instagram Reels” in the coming weeks in over 50 countries to compete with TikTok.

Tik Tok has been over fire lately as it has been banned in India, Hong Kong and other countries are in talks about banning the app as well. This is because of security and the way it handles user data. Now Facebook is about to launch Instagram Reels to compete directly with Tik Tok.

Facebook Reels will have almost all of TikToks features. It lets users make and share short video clips to play along a catalogue of music to choose from. Also like Tik Tok, users will be able to use/ remix music from other user’s videos. Instagram Reels will also have a “Featured Reels” section like the “Featured”/ “For you” page on TikTok.

This is not the first time Facebook copied it’s competitors and they don’t hold back to admit it. “We are in a place where we have to be willing to acknowledge when someone did something awesome and try to learn from it,” said Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram when asked about Snapchat. A few years back, Instagram and later on Facebook mimicked Snapchat with it’s “Stories” section which is still doing very well today.

What are your thought on “Instagram Reels” and will you download the app as soon as it comes out or will you stick to TikTok?
