Active Covid-19 cases in Malta have now surpassed 1000 as cases continue to rise.

In the past 24 hours, a record of 112 covid cases were found, which got the total active cases up to 1009.

This should be to no surprise as cases found in the past 5 days were 111, 93, 68, 95 & 100.

The total number of cases since last February stands at 4160, meaning that almost 1/4th of the total number of cases in the past 8 months are current active cases.

This rise in cases is happening as schools are re-opening and thus pressure is being made by multiple teacher unions to close schools once again and retreat to online lessons to maintain the transmission.

Many are also pressuring government to imply heavier restrictions on bars, restaurants and other entertainment outlets in order to reduce transmission.
