Heritage Malta have announced yesterday that they have acquired a letter written by General Napoleon Bonaparte, ordering his men to set sail to Malta which later became the French invasion of the Maltese islands.
This letter was written in 1798, which means 222 years ago! Now, 222 years later, the letter is back in Malta.
The letter was acquired by Heritage Malta at an auction for the sum of €60,000.
Napoleon is an important person in Maltese history as the French invasion and occupation has a significant effect on Malta’s government and culture.
This unique piece will be available for everyone to see in the National Museum of Archaeology later this month.
